Derek Garland

Derek Garland is a silent but dangerous FMX competitor with smooth style and an inventory of insane tricks. Garland has competed on the AST Dew Tour as well as the Masters of Dirt competition where he took fourth place. He also competed in the X-Games internationally in 2008, where he locked in fifth place during the Best Trick event. Garland has been involved in over 90,000 FMX demos all around the world! 

Age began riding: 8 years old 

How did you begin riding motocross/freestyle motocross? I started going to the desert with my dad and riding with him. When I got better I did some racing. My favorite part about riding was the jumps, so I just stayed focused on jumping and did my first show when I was 16 at Costa Mesa Speedway.  

What is the hardest part about being a freestyle motocross rider? I have no complaints.  

Do you have any superstitions or pre-performance rituals? Pray to God to keep me safe.  

Is the Nuclear Cowboyz tour the new generation of FMX? Yes, I think it is going to be insane!  

What can't you live without on the road? My dirt bike, I'm not happy unless I'm riding.
